Symptoms of BPD

Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by pervasive instability in moods, personal relationships, self-image and behavior. People with borderline personality disorder can experience very intense feelings of depression, anxiety and anger but these episodes may last only hours or one day. BPD can also impact a person's identity with the person having a sense that he or she has little idea who they really are. People with BPD can have significant negative views of themselves, feeling unworthy or fundamentally bad.

Patients with BPD can make frequent changes in their career goals, long term plans and friendships. They may feel empty, bored, or unfairly misunderstood or mistreated. BPD's are highly sensitive to rejection, and may react angrily to mild separations such as a business trip. People who suffer with borderline personality disorder may have intense fears of abandonment as a result of difficulties feeling emotionally attached to a person when that person is physically absent.

In general, BPD is more prevalent among women than men.
